Advocacy
Advocacy can be described as an effort to change public perceptions and to influence policy decisions and funding priorities. At times, the policies of governments, institutions or organizations create barriers, harm or other injustices for individuals or groups of people.
Advocacy not only consists of educating others about an issue, but also recommending specific solutions. Simply put, advocacy is supporting a certain cause and working to get others to support it as well. There are many ways to advocate for an issue. The key is to know what you want to achieve, who you need to convince and how you can motivate them to do what you believe is necessary. Once you know this, you can put together your strategy for change.
As done during the previous International AIDS Conferences, the Washington DC YouthForce is generating common advocacy messages on behalf of young people around the world in regards to HIV prevention, the rights of young people living with HIV,and sexual and reproductive health and rights.
